Born in Glasgow, James Fullarton studied at the the Glasgow School of Art under Donaldson, Goudie and Shanks. Since graduating in 1969, he has worked full-time as a professional painter. He has exhibited extensively galleries throughout the UK including the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts and the Royal Scottish Academy. He has lectured for the Scottish Arts Council and has won several prizes throughout his career including the David Cargill Award and the Britoil Award.
Today Fullarton is regarded as one of Scotland's finest contemporary painters famed for his powerful style of skilled fluid brushwork, strong colour and broad palette. Working in both oil and acrylic, his subject matter is varied and includes still-life, and his much renowned en-plein air landscape and harbour paintings.
