René Lelong (French 1871-1938)
René Lelong exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français. He obtained a third class medal in 1895 and was nominated a member of the Salon in 1898.
René Lelong painted animated scenes and landscapes, women, figures, racecourse or beach scenes and flowers. He also had an important activity as an illustrator. In 1907, he illustrated Peints par eux-mêmes written by Paul Hervieu, in 1909 Braves gens by Jean Richepin, in 1912 Ballet contemporain by V. Svetlow, in 1923 Jacques le fataliste by Diderot, in 1930 Les Vrilles de la vigne by Colette, as well as Chouchette by Marcel Prévost, Manon Lescaut by the abbé Prévost, and Notre Cœur, La Maison Tellier, Les Sœurs Rondoli, by Guy de Maupassant.
René Lelong also cooperated with several magazines, including Fémina. His charming paintings, show the artist’s skill and ability in creating light effects, as well as his great talent for composition.
