William Mellor. (1851 - 1931)

William Mellor William Mellor was born in Barnsley and specialised in landscapes of Yorkshire, but also frequently painted subjects of North Wales and the Lake District. He lived in Yorkshire throughout his life, residing in Ilkley, Scarborough and lastly Harrogate, where he died.

Mellor's paintings recorded many well known views, especially around North Wales, and his compositions generally included water - either the tranquil waters of the rivers or the majestic lakes of Grasmere and Ullswater. His favourite season was late summer or early autumn, which allowed him to paint foliage meticulously and with a warm palette.

William Mellor did not exhibit his work in London, but his paintings are highly sought after by collectors today.
