William Henry Mander. ( fl. 1881-1914 )

William Henry Mander is best known for his landscape paintings. He lived in Birmingham, North Wales, and specialised in painting views of the Midlands and North Wales.

Mander exhibited between 1882 and 1914 and although he never showed his paintings in London he was a frequent exhibitor at The Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham (66 works) together with his contemporaries David Bates and B W Leader. Mander also exhibited pictures at the Royal Cambrian Academy.

Mander has a particularly attractive naturalistic style. He painted in a variety of soft colours ranging from yellows through to greens and browns. His subjects feature cottages and figures - often engaged in activities such as fishing or a shepherd leading his flock.
