Born in Dalry, Ayrshire, George Houston was a painter in oil and watercolour landscapes especially Argyll, Loch Awe, Loch Tay and Loch Fyne. George Houston served his time as a lithographic artist in Glasgow, subsequently illustrator with the Glasgow Citizen.
Widely travelled, visiting Japan in 1911. A prolific painter in both watercolour and oil with a simple and direct vision. George Houston liked the use of vibrant blues, greens and yellows.
Note: Painted c1910. Sir Robert Lorimer commenced renovations of the Castle in 1911. Dunderave is the seat of the MacNaughtans of Argyll.
